About Dr. Koneru
A native of San Antonio, Dr. Koneru attended Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) in Cleveland after his graduation from Churchill High School. At CWRU he earned a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. He then returned home to attend medical school at the UT Health Science Center.
Dr. Koneru completed his internship and residency in General Surgery in New Haven, Connecticut at the Hospital of St. Raphael, an affiliate of Yale University. Following completion of this prestigious General Surgery training, he returned to CWRU to pursue training in Plastic Surgery under internationally recognized cosmetic, hand, and reconstructive surgeons.
While in training, Dr. Koneru was involved in many scientific research projects. Many of these projects involved the application of innovative computer and imaging technologies such as three-dimensional CT and shape scanning. In 1994, he created the first educational Web site dedicated to Plastic Surgery. In addition to his many research publications and presentations, he has co-authored a textbook chapter in Essential Otolaryngology edited by K.J. Lee.
Licensed in Texas, Dr. Koneru is Board Certified in Plastic Surgery. He was a former Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center Medical School. Liposuction - Dr. Koneru offers
tumescent liposuction to safely sculpt

 The Zeltiq™ is a new non-invasive procedure that uses controlled delivery of cooling to the skin to reduce fat bulges. Areas that benefit most include love handles, abdomen, and back rolls.
Those patients with a BMI less than 30 or who are near or at their ideal body weight are the best candidates for the Zeltiq™ procedure. This technique is definitely not a weight loss method.
This treatment is the first alternative to traditional liposuction in San Antonio that effectively eliminates unwanted collections of fat without the need for surgery or incisions. Others have tried to control fat with mesotherapy in San Antonio or even the Zerona® external beam laser. Our evaluation of these other techniques did not find them to be effective consistently. Most physicians using these other methods are not Board Certified Plastic Surgeons and usually do not have privileges to perform liposuction in a hospital. Zeltiq™ actually destroys the fat cells so that once they are treated, they are gone. Our feeling is that for those patients in San Antonio who have localized areas of fat that they want to reduce, Zeltiq™ is the best non-surgical alternative and at a fraction of the cost of liposuction.
After your intial Zeltiq™ treatment, you will see a gradual, natural reduction of fat over the next 2 to 3 months. Some patients benefit from one more Zeltiq™ treatment at that time to maximize their results.
What to Expect During Your Zeltiq™ Procedure
- No general/topical anesthesia or pain medication is needed.
- A specially designed applicator cup uses a gentle vacuum pressure
to draw tissue between the cooling panels.
- You may feel a pulling sensation caused by the vacuum pressure in the
area being treated.
- When the procedure begins you will feel a cooling sensation in the
procedure area. This sensation goes away in a few minutes.
- You will either sit or lie down during your procedure, depending on
the area being treated.
- Procedure time can be two hours or more depending on the size of the area to be treated. During your consultation, Dr. Koneru will discuss how long your procedure will take and how much time you should allow for your office visit.
